Tarrant County Appraisal District 2022 Houses Property Tax Protest Summary
Property owners who owned $49 billion worth of homes in 2022 filed property tax challenges with Tarrant Appraisal District (TAD), out of a total assessed value of $174 billion.
28% of houses were protested based on Tarrant CAD noticed value. Compared to owners of ordinary houses, owners of more costly homes are more inclined to protest. Protests are much more common among owners of utilities, commercial space, and apartments. Based on valuation, owners of 43% of utilities, 93% of multifamily properties, and 72% of commercial properties appealed. Because it is successful, a sizable fraction of utility, business, and multifamily owners repeatedly appeal each year.
Every year, owners who file an appeal for their property taxes save between 60 and 70 percent of their total property tax. The appraisal district releases a new number most years and that value will remain unless property owners appeal it. In my 39 years of experience, I have found that few owners would file an annual appeal on their own. If you are not protesting on your own, let O'Connor handle it for you. You won't be required to pay anything until we lower your property taxes for that particular year. There are also no upfront expenses or flat fees.
