Labor comprises the majority of Galveston Central Appraisal District (CAD) expenditures as of 2023. The appraisal district employed a staff of 54 appraisers with 19 full-time appraisers. Out of the 54 appraisers, 11 analyze residential property and 3 analyze commercial property. The district approximately has a total of 10,542 tax parcels per appraiser to evaluate. Because of the limited number of appraisers and the high volume of valuations, there are often opportunities to challenge the property description, valuation model, comparable sales, or assessment comparables.
