Hays County 2024 Houses Property Tax Protest Summary

According to the Hays County Central Appraisal District (CAD) the market value for houses, condos, and townhouses as of 2024 was $38 billion. Due to high or unfair assessments, property owners filed a total of 24,493 tax protests. The value of those protests was $14 billion. Appraisal Review Board (ARB) hearings, 1,582 protests were filed and 1,211 houses received a reduction. The reduction amounted to $102 million. Lawsuits were filed to further fight the property taxes.
