JCAD 2018 Property Tax Protests
Jefferson County Appraisal District received property tax appeals for a total of 6,340 real property and BPP accounts in 2018 versus 6,190 in 2017. The 2018 property tax protest count was for 4,610 commercial/industrial / other properties and 1,730 for houses (73% commercial vs 27.2% houses). The volume of Jefferson County protests for houses has dropped 8.28% in the last two years while the volume of commercial has risen 2.5%. The total value of Jefferson County property protested in 2018 was $16.24B, including $0.234M for houses and $16.01B for commercial / other. The value of Jefferson County houses protested in 2018 rose from $257,600,000 last year to $234,000,000 this year. Jefferson County Appraisal Review Board (ARB) conducted 1,000 ARB hearings while Jefferson County Appraisal District coordinated 5,015 hearings. The volume of Jefferson County Appraisal Review Board hearings remains the same from 1,000 in 2016 to 1,000 in 2018.
