Why are Property Taxes so High for Homes in Texas?
Texas does not have a state income tax, so property taxes are the main source of local government funding. This often results in higher-than-expected property tax bills for homeowners.
You could be paying unfair or inflated taxes and not even know it. Property assessments can be inaccurate or inflated. Thankfully, we are here to help you with these issues.

A few words from some of our trusted Clients.
“I don’t know how you did it, but I am impressed. I signed up with you for the first time this year. I appealed my own tax appraisal last year and although not satisfied, managed to get HCAD to reduce my appraisal by $26,600. This year, I thought whatever you could do would be gravy. Well, you got HCAD to reduce it by $40,400! I will gleefully pay your bill when I receive it. You are awesome! Thanks so much for your representation.”
“The hearing results thrilled me! I must convey my deep gratitude to your firm on the superb job you have done representing us!! I tried to do this appeal a few years ago with a friend who is a realtor. We didn’t have the clout. You do, and you use it for the good, for the relief of the overburdened taxpayer. I applaud your work and I will pass the word on to family and friends.”
“Finally, a program that protects homeowners! It was easy to enroll in The Property Tax Enrollment Program. The added benefits and my secure property portal with 24/7 is great. Overpaying property taxes is one less thing I need to worry about now!”
“I wanted to give you a word of thanks for the job you did. With little time to appeal my valuation myself, your service was outstanding, from the questions I had on the phone to the final results.”
Frequently Asked questions

Texas Residential Property Taxes

Through property tax appeals to your appraisal district, we will lower the appraised value of your home. Since property taxes are built upon this number, reducing your value means that your taxes should go down. We will protest your values to the most appropriate level.

This is typically May 15, or 30 days after an appraisal notice is mailed. This can have some wiggle room depending on the appraisal district, but it is usually best to think of the deadline as May 15.

We serve all kinds of residential properties and will gladly help you without regard for size or value. From shacks to mansions, we have done it all.

Appeals are first filed with your local appraisal district (CAD). Attempts are made to reach a settlement with the CAD. If this is not possible or they lowball the taxpayer, then the next option is a formal appeal to the appraisal review board (ARB). A final option for higher valued properties is binding arbitration or a judicial appeal.

That is O’Connor’s primary business. For over 50 years, we have been helping homeowners fight property taxes. Having a property tax expert by your side is not always needed in the appeal process, but it is usually good to have. Even if you do sign up with us, we have plenty of resources, blogs, and FAQs to help you on your journey.

We always depend on word-of-mouth and customer reviews to show that we are the best. We are one of the most aggressive firms in the business and always stand by our results.
