LubbockCAD 2019 Property Tax Protests
Lubbock County Appraisal District confirmed a large volume of property tax protests in 2019; the total was 15,800 versus 15,400 in 2018 and 11,960 in 2017. The volume of property tax protests in Lubbock County has been increasing during the last 3 years. Homeowners accounted for most of the protests in 2019, as is typical ( 15,800 appeals by homeowners versus 2,180 commercial/industrial/other). Lubbock County property owners submitted property tax protests for real property and business personal property with a total value of $7.89 billion. Most of the protests were resolved at the informal appeal level. The total value of property appealed in Lubbock County in the last two years rose by 44.7% versus 30.2% statewide. Lubbock County Appraisal District processed 2,590 informal hearings and the Llano County Appraisal Review Board (ARB) held 2,000 hearings. Property owners who protested Lubbock County valuations won big. Lubbock County protests settled informally rose from 2,050 in 2017 to 2,590 in 2019. Total savings for informal/formal were $4 million (for both single-family and commercial/other, based on 2.7% tax rate and no exemptions.
